No one, and I mean absolutely no one, outside of the Michigan State football program is giving the Spartans a fighting chance to beat the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus Saturday afternoon.
Michigan State is used to playing the role of underdog and it has been cast by every media member and opposing fan since the John L. Smith era. The stigma of “Same Old Spartans” has been dropped, but the “chip” on the shoulder of the entire football program has grown over the years.
Despite four 10-plus win seasons in five years, Michigan State is still looked at as a program that’s in decline because Michigan now has Jim Harbaugh and Ohio State’s got Urban Meyer.
