Heading into Tuesday night’s primetime matchup in the Champions Classic at the United Center in Chicago, the No. 13 Michigan State Spartans and No. 4 Kansas Jayhawks are still trying to figure out what kind of team they each have.

Returning from last year’s Final Four squad are Denzel Valentine, Matt Costello, Tum Tum Nairn, Bryn Forbes and a few other role players. Losing Travis Trice and Branden Dawson will hurt, but the addition of Eron Harris, Deyonta Davis, Matt McQuaid and Javon Bess — he spent most of last year hurt — will bring a spark to this team and ease the former Spartans’ departure.
