Saturday afternoon’s game between the No. 1 Michigan State Spartans and Florida Gators is a rematch of the 2000 National Championship game in which the green and white came out on top, 89-76. That was the only time Tom Izzo led the Spartan basketball program to a national title, but this season has the same type of feel.
Through 10 games, the Spartans are beating opponents by an average of about 27 points with wins over No. 2 Kansas, No. 15 Providence and No. 22 Louisville. This Michigan State team has looked the part of the top team in college basketball and will need to prove it’s just that against a tough Gators team minus Billy Donovan as head coach.
