Less than three months after Michigan State University's general counsel retired amid the Nassar sex-abuse controversy, his replacement is stepping down, MSU has confirmed.
Kristine Zayko, MSU's acting general counsel, submitted her resignation last week and will be taking a job in the private sector, according to MSU spokeswoman Emily Gerkin Guerrant.
An assistant general counsel since 1998, Zayko, 48, was promoted to acting head of the department in February when Robert Noto, MSU vice president for legal affairs, announced his retirement amid questions about his office's handling of sexual misconduct cases, particularly the Nassar case.
Zayko "verbally indicated to administration a few weeks ago that she was not interested" in replacing Noto on a permanent basis, Guerrant said.
