EAST LANSING -- Michigan State will spend the entire upcoming season honoring former coach Jud Heathcote, who passed away on Monday, Aug. 28 at age 90.

Spartans players will wear a patch on their jerseys throughout the season, the school announced on Wednesday. The design of the patch has yet to be finalized.

In addition, Michigan State's Feb. 10 home game against Purdue will be designated the "Jud Heathcote Tribute Game." The date coincides with a previously scheduled former player reunion.

"Jud might be gone, but he will live on as a part of our basketball program and our university as we dedicate the upcoming season to his memory," Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said in a statement.
