A district court ruled that Michigan State is out of compliance with Title IX after the school shuttered its men's and women's swimming and diving programs two years ago.
However, that court ruled that the university is not required to reinstate the teams, but instead need to develop a pathway to compliance. Supporters of MSU's former swim athletes are hopeful the teams return in order to meet the court order.
"We were very glad to (to have) a federal judge ruling our way now, but unfortunately, she should have immediately reinstated the women's team," said Mike Barlow, a MSU Board of Trustees candidate and parent of former Spartan distance swimmer Sophia Balow.
