EAST LANSING — The easy part is done, even if it wasn’t all that easy.
Michigan State football can thank Brian Lewerke’s legs, and his connection with Darrell Stewart Jr..
The Spartans' senior quarterback rolled out and threw a 44-yard strike on the run to Stewart, then raced 30 yards to the Indiana 1-yard line. That set up Matt Coghlin’s 21-yard field goal with 5 seconds to play, and Michael Dowell recovered a final-play fumble in the end zone for a defensive TD and a 40-31 homecoming escape Saturday at Spartan Stadium.
