Michigan State sues 13 insurance companies over Nassar case

Michigan State University has filed a lawsuit against 13 insurance companies to force them to help cover costs of a $500 million settlement with victims of Larry Nassar.

The university issued a statement after filing the lawsuit Thursday, July 26, in Ingham County Circuit Court.

"We are suing our carriers, including our largest carrier United Educators, for failing to honor their policies," Robert Young, general counsel for Michigan State University, said in the statement.

"It is disappointing and unfortunate we have to go to court on this matter, but we are hopeful this lawsuit will bring us to speedy resolution and that the insurance companies will honor their contractual obligations," the statement said.
