Michigan State stuns No. 8 Penn State with late touchdown

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Michigan State's obituary was written.

A week removed from an uninspired loss to Northwestern as part of a 3-2 start, the Spartans were nearly a two-touchdown underdog and the homecoming guest for No. 8 Penn State.

Instead of rolling over, the Spartans stood up and shocked the Nittany Lions 21-17 in front of a Beaver Stadium crowd of 106,685 on Saturday.

Brian Lewerke hit Felton Davis for a 25-yard touchdown with 19 seconds remaining in the game cap an eight-play, 76-yard drive and pull out the upset.

The Michigan State defense did its part by limiting a high-powered Penn State offense that averaged 49.
