EAST LANSING -- Michigan State says an allegation that its counseling center discouraged a woman from reporting an alleged assault to police and school authorities is "untrue."
The school released a lengthy statement on Wednesday in response to a federal lawsuit filed against it on Monday by an unnamed female student.
In that lawsuit, the woman said she was raped by three unnamed members of the school's basketball team in April, 2015. Following that alleged assault, the woman said the school's counseling center discouraged her from reporting, telling her to "just get yourself better."
Michigan State disputed the woman's version of events, saying "appropriate care and relevant information for a rape victim was provided.
