EAST LANSING - Connor Heyward was already told he would have to step up.
Coming off a true freshman season in which he provided Michigan State depth and versatility at running back, there would be increased opportunities with Gerald Holmes graduating. Then LJ Scott announced he would return for his senior year and redshirt junior Madre London said he would seek a graduate transfer for his final season of eligibility.
Just like that, Heyward now appears to be the No. 2 option in the Spartans' once-crowded backfield.
"With them leaving, (coaches) made it more obvious that my presence would have to be felt more," Heyward said last week.
