East Lansing – After 26 starts, 49 touchdown passes and nearly 6,500 passing yards, Payton Thorne’s days as Michigan State’s starting quarterback appear to be over.
That’s because the two-year starter has entered the transfer portal, a team spokesman confirmed Sunday.
Michigan State completed spring practice just more than two weeks ago and Thorne appeared, based on the number of snaps in the open practice/scrimmage and how the previous 14 practices played out, to be the leader in a three-man race for the starting job that included fourth-year junior Noah Kim and redshirt freshman Katin Houser.
