Michigan State notes: Two former walk-on starters at DE and avoiding predictability

EAST LANSING - A walk-on getting playing time isn't unusual.

Neither is one earning a scholarship.

Two former walk-ons with very limited experience starting for a program that has won two of the last four Big Ten titles? That stands out and is what Michigan State is facing heading into this season.

Redshirt sophomore Kenny Willekes and redshirt junior Dillon Alexander - both former walk-ons who earned scholarships this spring - are listed first on the depth chart at the defensive end spots for Saturday's season opener against Bowling Green.

"They've played fast, physical and aggressive, and relentless," Michigan State defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett said on Wednesday.
