Right when you thought everything was ready to start clicking for the new-look Michigan State defense, it suffered a huge blow on Wednesday evening as head coach Mark Dantonio announced that starting Sam linebacker Ed Davis would miss the entire 2015 season with a knee injury.

The extent of the injury is unknown as of right now, but according to 247Sports‘ Mike Wilson, it happened during Wednesday’s practice — the first in full pads of the season.
Davis was expected to be a crucial member of the defensive front-seven, but the loss means that the ‘next man up’ mentality will continue to relate to the Spartans.
