Michigan State holds off Maryland as Tom Izzo passes Bobby Knight for record

East Lansing — Michigan State started strong Sunday, then held on in the second half to close the regular season with a 77-67 victory over Maryland that moved head coach Tom Izzo past Bobby Knight for most career victories at a Big Ten school.

The Spartans (20-11 overall, 11-9 Big Ten) led by 20 at halftime, but saw that cushion whittled to just three in the second half before closing strong for the victory over the Terrapins (15-16, 7-13) at Breslin Center.

The victory was Izzo's 663rd, passing Bobby Knight.

This is a developing story.
