Michigan State has three leaders in hotly-contested competition for punt returner

EAST LANSING - Brandon Sowards is back as Michigan State's punt returner.

However, his experience alone may not be enough to keep the job.

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said during the first week of fall camp the team needs more production in punt return. There now appear to be three leaders for the position in Sowards and fellow wide receivers Darrell Stewart Jr. and Laress Nelson.

"It's going to be a hot-contested competition trying to get that between Sowards, Darrell Stewart and Laress right now," Michigan State receivers coach Terrence Samuel said after practice on Monday.
