EAST LANSING — While No. 20 Michigan State football had opened up a sizeable lead on in-state foe Western Michigan, the Broncos had a chance to tighten the score after recovering a fumble deep in MSU territory late in the half.
Trailing 28-7 and facing 2nd-and-goal at MSU’s 5-yard line with 0:55 remaining in the second quarter, WMU quarterback Jon Wassink threw over the middle, but sophomore safety Xavier Henderson was lurking. Henderson made the interception, the Spartans went down the field for a field goal, and the 51-17 rout was on.
