EAST LANSING — During a TV timeout, Michigan State football offensive linemen Spencer Brown and Brandon Baldwin darted to the sideline for water.
Only this wasn’t during a game-day Saturday last fall. This was during spring practice a year ago.
Just about every day.
The Spartans had just five healthy scholarship offensive linemen for much of the 15 practices leading into the 2022 season. They got creative, moving two walk-on defensive linemen across the ball to help with numbers, then worked in a number of different strategies to minimize the wear and tear on Brown, Baldwin and the others.
