EAST LANSING – Payton Thorne’s inconsistent performance Friday night took the spotlight, and the Michigan State football quarterback did not shy away from it.
He didn’t need to review the tape to know how he felt about it.
“If you ask how I played,” Thorne said, “I mean, I was pretty disappointed with how I played.”
Yet through the first-game jitters and adjustment to some significant changes, particularly in the run game, Thorne and his offensive teammates showed the ability to make big plays in different ways during the 14th-ranked Spartans’ 35-13 victory over Western Michigan.
