EAST LANSING — Hands went to the hips, the tell-tale sign of tired athletes.

Michigan State’s defense looked gassed. Its play reflected it.

It was only the second quarter. Ohio State's offense had just ripped apart the Spartans for three touchdowns and 296 yards, tacking on a field goal just before the final whistle.
