EAST LANSING — As Michigan State football faced a late one-point deficit against Utah State, quarterback Brian Lewerke went to a group as reliable as any, his wide receivers.

The sequence started with a first-down catch by Cody White despite a defender draped all over him. But even after a quick pass to Darrell Stewart Jr. in motion after, MSU was still out of field goal range.
