Looking back at what happened in Michigan State’s 28-14 win over Western Michigan on Saturday and a look ahead to this week’s bye.
Three things we learned
Loose-play Lewerke: Brian Lewerke’s legs are legitimate. MSU’s sophomore starting quarterback dashed 61 yards for a first-quarter touchdown, outracing much of the Broncos’ secondary on a designed read-option keeper. It was the longest TD run by an MSU quarterback since Charlie Baggett’s 73-yard score against Purdue in 1973. Lewerke ran for a career-best 81 yards, the most by an MSU quarterback since Drew Stanton in 2005, and also became the first Spartan QB with two TD runs since Stanton in 2006.
