Ever since Dwan Mathis decommitted from Michigan State, the Spartans have been flipping back and forth between finishing the 2019 class with a quarterback or just waiting until 2020 and going an entire cycle without one.
However, the Spartans have been putting forth the effort to garner a commitment from a quarterback in the class, aiming for three-star Payton Thorne, a Western Michigan pledge.
Michigan State recently offered the three-star from Naperville, Ill., on Dec. 4, he took an official to Western Michigan three days later and then took a trip to East Lansing on Dec. 10.
