In fact, the defense was so dominant from about 2010-14 that Pat Narduzzi was poached by a Power Five program in Pittsburgh to take over as its next head coach.
Mike Tressel and Harlon Barnett split duties after that until the latter parted ways with the staff and joined Willie Taggart at Florida State as the lone defensive coordinator for the Seminoles in 2018. That left Tressel as the man in charge of the defense for the Spartans in 2018 and he did a sparkling job.
