QB Brian Lewerke: Who would have expected the sophomore quarterback to be MSU’s leading rusher after two games? Lewerke flashed double deception – first on the read-action fake, and then with his surprising speed – to blow past WMU’s secondary for a 61-yard touchdown run to start the game. He finished with 242 yards of total offense, 161 through the air and 81 on the ground. One area for concern is his ball security, with an interception thrown into double coverage and his third fumble of the young season that stayed with MSU.
