EAST LANSING — Payton Thorne predicted the future for Michigan State football’s offense, despite being backed up near his own goal line.
“I remember going out in the huddle … and I said, 'All right, 97 — we're going 97,'” Thorne recalled, the yards needed to score a tying touchdown late in Saturday’s third quarter against Wisconsin.
Elijah Collins lined up behind him, his lack of usage in the Spartans’ struggling run game in recent weeks puzzling because he had produced when given the ball.
This was Collins’ drive. And he made the most of it.
