Michigan State football QB Theo Day becomes latest Spartan to enter NCAA transfer portal

The conga line of Michigan State football players heading for the NCAA transfer portal paused Tuesday.

But quarterback Theo Day joined the procession Wednesday, becoming the ninth member of the Spartans to head for the exit since the conclusion of spring practice Saturday.

Day, a redshirt sophomore from Canton, didn't play last season and appeared to be leapfrogged on the depth chart by four of his teammates — Payton Thorne, Anthony Russo, Hampton Fay and Noah Kim. All received more reps than Day during scrimmage periods last Saturday

"The quarterbacks work with different groups, so Payton runs with the ones and Russo runs with the ones as well," head coach Mel Tucker said earlier this month.
