TEMPE, Arizona – Michigan State’s penalties are becoming a problem.

The 13th-ranked Spartans were flagged nine times for 82 yards, causing their drives to stall and allowing Arizona State to collect critical first downs late in the Sun Devils’ 16-13 upset Saturday night.

“The penalties, you gotta go back and look at those,” coach Mark Dantonio said.
