Michigan State football’s season likely will be cut to eight games, barring any more cancellations. That makes this week the midpoint of the Spartans’ season under first-year coach Mel Tucker.
There are three scheduled games remaining, with a plus-one game against a to-be-determined Big Ten West opponent on Dec. 19. Two of the three opponents left play in East Lansing but are unbeaten: No. 13 Northwestern visits Saturday (3:30 p.m./ESPN2) and No. 3 Ohio State the following week (noon/ABC). The finale is Dec. 12 at winless Penn State.
It has been a Jekyll and Hyde start to Tucker’s tenure.
