As Michigan State football welcomed a new batch of players this week, the Spartans saw another member of the team begin the process of leaving.
Redshirt freshman linebacker Devin Hightower submitted his name to the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday.
The former three-star recruit from Twinsburg, Ohio, appeared in one game last season and played seven snaps — all on special teams — in a blowout loss to Ohio State.
The 5-foot-11, 225-pound Hightower is the 27th Michigan State player to enter the portal since November and is the sixth member of the 2020 signing class to leave the program after the conclusion of spring practice last month.
