Michigan State football halftime observations: Spartans sticking to run

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Halftime observations from Beaver Stadium, where No. 8 Penn State leads Michigan State football, 14-7 on Saturday.

Committed to run

MSU coach Mark Dantonio said he would continue to run the ball despite the Spartans' injury situation on the offensive line and without LJ Scott, who did not make the trip. They struggled at times but also have found some room, but Connor Heyward has run well and Brian Lewerke is taking off more. The Spartans have 81 yards on 23 carries as a team, eclipsing the 74 yards (on 24 attempts) they ran for in last year's upset of PSU.
