Michigan State football grades: Failure to adjust after halftime a microcosm of the season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Chris Solari rates Michigan State football on a scale of A to F after the Spartans’ 39-24 loss at Penn State on Saturday.

Offense: C

There was competency in the run game, with freshman Jordon Simmons putting up 72 hard yards in his return after missing two games. All four of the penalties on the offense came from the line — three in the final quarter and two overall by Matt Carrick. There was movement in the passing game, though, with Payton Thorne throwing for 325 yards and three touchdowns — much of that before halftime in building a 21-10 lead.
