Game notes: Michigan State's first loss of the season was a gut punch, but MSU still has a lane to the College Football Playoff. The Spartans, who fell to Purdue, 40-29, last week, can't afford a loss to the Terps. MSU and Maryland did not play last season, but the Spartans have won three straight in this series and nine of the teams' 11 meetings overall.
