EAST LANSING — Give ‘em credit.
The Michigan State Spartans righted the ship on Saturday afternoon, earning a 23-13 victory over Purdue.
On a dark gloomy day, coming off a loss against Michigan, forced to use a back-up quarterback, playing against a team that had just beaten Ohio State, the Spartans bounced back with conviction.
Rocky Lombardi, who was starting his first game at quarterback, was fantastic, considering the situation, throwing for more than 300 yards and two touchdowns.
MSU’s defense was even better, shutting down Purdue's explosive offense.
And late in the fourth quarter, the Spartans played with energy and determination, making plays when they absolutely had to make plays.
