EAST LANSING — It was as good a start as No. 20 Michigan State football could have wanted on offense.
It is surprisingly the defense that is having trouble with Western Michigan's offense at Spartan Stadium, where the Spartans lead, 31-7.

Brian Lewerke and his offensive teammates responded quickly to coach Mark Dantonio's highly critical Tuesday news conference. The senior QB was sharp in leading the Spartans to three straight touchdowns to start the game, opening with a 33-yard play-action pass to Darrell Stewart Jr.
