EAST LANSING — One of the problems Mark Dantonio identified from last year’s 39-31 triple-overtime loss at Northwestern was an inability to pressure quarterback Clayton Thorson.

Or, as the Spartans’ coach said after the game, “get him off his spot.”

MSU had just one sack and one QB hurry last year against Thorson, who went 33 of 44 that day for 356 yards and was 7 of 9 with two TD passes in overtime.
