And Connor Heyward flashed plenty of burst to the edge, giving Brian Lewerke a new mate to run option plays with.
Sophomore backup running back Heyward ran just five times for 42 yards, but he scored a pair of touchdowns to help the 12th-ranked Spartans survive Utah State, 38-31, on Friday night at Spartan Stadium.
