EAST LANSING — Everyone knows the potential for Michigan State’s football season has risen infinitely in a year.
That is what getting back to 10 wins — and doing so with almost an entire underclass roster that is returning — will do for a program. Having 19 of 22 starters returning only amplifies the expectations.
Yet when the 12th-ranked Spartans kick off their season at home Friday against Utah State (7 p.m./Big Ten Network), there remains plenty of uncertainty with the familiar faces. Things that can make a very good team either great or disappointing, depending on how everything transpires over the next 14 weeks.
