Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State football team surprised many in 2017. One year after an ignominious 3-9 season, the Spartans rebounded with a 10-3 record, finishing second in the Big Ten East. The seven-win turnaround was the best in program history.
While there’s a wide range amongst publications, all are in agreement that Michigan State belongs in any preseason top 25.
The Spartans have been ranked as high as fifth and as low as 15th. ESPN has them at ninth, while the Sporting News has them at 13th.
And in Athlon’s rankings – published on Monday – MSU is 12th.
