Plenty of people — strangers, fans, critics — have reacted to Tuesday's news that Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio was retiring.

No doubt one in particular resonated.

Spartans basketball coach Tom Izzo, a longtime friend and colleague, made his almost-sorrowful feelings known on social media.

"It's a sad day for me, if you want the truth," he said in a tweet posted on @MichiganStOnBTN.

When Dantonio became the program's all-time career winning coach in September, a video tribute was played on the Spartan Stadium scoreboard.
