EAST LANSING - At this point last year, Tyson Smith was attempting to prove he could come back.
The Michigan State cornerback did as he recovered from a stroke suffered shortly after the conclusion of the 2016 season to return and play last season. However, Smith suffered a setback, will not play this season and may never return to the field for the Spartans, coach Mark Dantonio announced Thursday afternoon.
"Tyson Smith is taking a medical (year) right now," Dantonio said after the team's first practice of fall camp. "He's had some other problems health-wise that I'm not going to speak about but at this point in time it's in his best interest to not play football.
