When Tom Izzo does eventually decide to end his Hall of Fame coaching career, the plan is for the legendary basketball coach to remain around Michigan State athletics.
Izzo's new contract, obtained Monday by the Free Press via a Freedom of Information Act request, provides him the opportunity to become a "special university advisor to the athletic director" should he decide to retire. It would be a six-year deal unless otherwise terminated early.
In that position, Izzo would receive $6.2 million for the first year and $750,000 for each additional year afterward. His duties would include public appearances for MSU, fundraising activities for the athletic department or university president and other duties assigned by the athletic director.
