EAST LANSING — Michigan State basketball’s Thomas Kithier suffered a broken nose during practice Wednesday, a program spokesman confirmed Thursday.

However, the sophomore forward is expected to practice and play in the No. 1-ranked Spartans’ opener Tuesday against No. 2 Kentucky in the Champions Classic in New York (9:30 p.m., ESPN).

Kithier started MSU’s 85-50 exhibition win over Albion on Tuesday, grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds and scoring seven points. He took an inadvertent elbow to the face during practice the following day, and the injury is considered minor.
