Michigan State basketball's Kyle Ahrens out against Purdue with back injury

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — No. 6 Michigan State basketball will play Purdue without Kyle Ahrens.

The junior forward went through warmups Sunday at Mackey Arena, but coach Tom Izzo said on his pregame show that Ahrens will miss his third game in the last five with a back injury.

The first-place Spartans (18-2, 9-0 Big Ten) tip off at 1 p.m. against the Boilermakers (13-6, 6-2)

Ahrens, who was coming off the bench, re-aggravated the injury in the second half of Thursday’s win at Iowa going for a loose-ball rebound. He did not return to that game.
