The opening game of the Maui Invitational wasn’t kind to the Spartans as they lost to Virginia Tech in one of the worst games they’ve played in years.
Tom Izzo apologized to Michigan State fans in attendance afterwards, stating that he felt the team let them down. How did the Spartans respond against Georgia in the consolation opener? They took a commanding 21-point lead at the half and then extended it to 28 in the second half before Anthony Edwards went nuclear and scored 33 points.
Michigan State held on for the win, but it wasn’t a blowout as expected at halftime.
