Spartans Defeat Iowa in Series Opener, 5-1

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Michigan State baseball team defeated Iowa, 5-1, in the series opener in Iowa City on Friday night. The Spartans scored runs in four of the first five innings to open up a 5-0 lead en route to improving to 33-13 on the year and 12-7 in the Big Ten.
After a 70 minute rain delay to start the game, it didn’t take long for the Spartans to get the scoring started, as Brandon Hughes took the first pitch of the game deep for his second homer of the season.
