Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is looking into the circumstances surrounding George Perles' retirement from the Michigan State University Board of Trustees, specifically whether a debt Perles owed the university was waived in return for his early retirement.
At the same time, her office is seeking an interview with former MSU interim President John Engler. Nessel, at a press conference Thursday, again urged the school to turn over thousands of documents it is refusing to hand over to investigators, claiming the records are protected under attorney-client privilege.
"Now is the time for MSU to do the right thing," she said, echoing her predecessor in saying MSU is more concerned about protecting its brand and image than in making needed changes.
