EAST LANSING -- By the developmental standards of Michigan State offensive linemen under Mark Dantonio, Matt Allen is ahead of schedule.
The redshirt freshman guard has impressed in camp, so much so that Spartans offensive line coach Mark Staten said late last week that he was making a push for a starting job.
But by his family's standards, Allen is about average.
This fall, Allen could become the third member of his family to start on the Michigan State offensive line since his older brother, Jack, broke in as a starter in 2013.
Jack went on to start two more seasons, becoming an All-American in 2015.
