Saying it had "lost confidence" in Michigan State University, the Mastercard Foundation is ending a $45 million commitment to fund the education of African students at MSU, as well as a second $13 million program.
"The Mastercard Foundation is dedicated to providing a safe environment for young people who participate in our programs," said a press release from the foundation.
"Due to extensive media reporting about issues involving Michigan State University (MSU), the Foundation has lost confidence in our partnership with the university," the release said.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars program began in 2012 and was scheduled to run for nine years, funding the education of 100 undergraduates and 85 graduate students from sub-Sahara Africa.
