Mark Dantonio credits former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce for setting him on a career path

DETROIT - Mark Dantonio shifted the topic to tackling when he felt it was important to address his wardrobe.

Speaking to high school coaches at the Horatio Williams Foundation on Wednesday night in Detroit, the Michigan State coach pointed out he had just returned from Columbus, Ohio, for a ceremony remembering former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce, who died Friday at age 87.

"Believe me, I'd never put a coat and tie on to come down here," Dantonio said. "I don't wear a coat and tie hardly ever."

Bruce was the reason for Dantonio's altered attire and had a role in his career as he hired Dantonio as a graduate assistant at Ohio State from 1983-84.
